Mount Abu is the only hill station in the desert state of Rajasthan. It lies in the Aravalli mountain range. The place is near to the Sirohi district. The hill station is located at an elevation of about 1,220 m above sea level. The hill station is blessed with beautiful landscapes, lakes, waterfalls, sunset & sunrise points and lush green forests which makes it a complete nature lovers paradise. The region is not only rich in vegetation, wildlife and hilly terrains, but also bears spiritual significance for Jains and Hindus.

 

The highest point known as the ‘Guru Shikhar’ which is about 1,722 m above sea level. The mountain houses many Hindu temples, including the Adhar Devi Temple, carved out of solid rock; the Shri Raghunathji Temple; and a shrine and temple to Dattatreya built atop the Guru Shikhar peak. The world headquarters of the Brahma Kumari order of lady renunciates is also located here. It is also believed that there is a footprint of Vishnu on top of the hill. The Durga temple, Ambika Mata Temple lies in a cleft of rock in Jagat, just outside of Mount Abu.

 

The other main tourist spots to visit here are Dilwara Jain Temples, Wildlife Sanctuary, Nakki Lake, Abu Road, Achalgarh, Salgaon Watch Tower, Cragis point, Devangan Valley, Tiger Path, Kodra Dam, Gaumukh, Kulagrah Valley, Gabir Nalla and Sayabera and Trevor’s Crocodile Tank.

 

Here you can find more than 17 Nature Trails and pathways suitable for adventurous activities. Travellers can go for trekking, rock climbing, rappelling , balloon rides, wildlife & bird watching. You can also understand tribal and lok Rajput culture of the tribes here. Mount Abu is traversed with many wildlife observing paths/view points such as Trevor’s Tank, Salgaon Watch Tower, Cragis point, Devangan Valley, Tiger Path, Kodra Dam, Gaumukh, Kulagrah Valley, Gabir Nalla and Sayabera, Achalgarh, etc . to name a few popular ones. Mountain Biking has also been introduced in this place.

 

The best time to visit the hill station is either during the months of February to June or in the months of September to December. The nearest domestic airport to Mount Abu is located at Udaipur.
