Kundapura is a coastal town in the Udupi district of Karnataka. The place got this name from an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Kundeshwara located in the town built by Kundavarama, the Alupa ruler. This town is also described as the town of the sun. The unique feature of the town is that the town is surrounded by water from three sides. The palm-fringed backwaters here add to the beauty of this temple town. The place is also historically important. This was once part of the Vijaya Nagara Empire.

Sri Kundeshwara Temple: The main place to visit in Kundapura is the Sri Kundeshwara Temple on the banks of the river Panchagangavali. This temple was built by king Kundavarma.
