    Kinnaur is a beautiful district of Himachal Pradesh. The place is famous for the Kinner Kailash, a mountain sacred to Hindus, close to the Tibetan border. The city houses great natural sceneries, rivers, valleys, high mountains, lakes and green pastures offering mesmerizing views for the tourists.

    The main tourist attractions here are:

    Kalpa: The place is located at an altitude of 2759 m from the sea level, on the old Hindustan Tibet Road. The Narayan-Nagani temple is here is an excellent example of brilliant local craftmanship. There are some Buddhist monasteries at Kalpa including the Hu-Bu-Ian-Car Gompa. Kalpa is situated close to the foot of 6050 meter high Kinner Kailash. This is considered as the legendary winter home of Shiva.

    Reckong Peo: This is situated at an altitude of 2670 m from the sea level. This offers a panoramic view of Kinner Kailash. Here is a 79 feet high rock formation that resembles Sivalinga which changes the colour as the day passes. There is a Buddhist Monastery also.

    Sangla: This is a popular village, situated on the right bank of the Baspa river. The place offers scenic view of forest all-around and also picturesque snow peaks. It is located in the famous Baspa valley. This is one of the prettiest valleys due to its flat terrain and green vegetation on the slopes which are not very steep.

    Chango: The place is located at a distance of 122 km from Kalpa. It is surrounded by high hills all around. Buddhism is generally practiced here. There are also some local Hindu deities too.

    Chhitkul: This is the last and highest village in the Baspa valley. It is situated on the right bank of the Baspa river. There are three temples of local goddess here.

    Kothi: This village is also called Koshtampi. This is an ancient large village in Kalpa. Kothi is surrounded by beautiful fields and fruit trees punctuated by vineyards with Kinner Kailash peak on the backdrops. There is a temple of goddess Shuwang Chandika in the village. There is also a temple dedicated to Bhairon.

    Leo: The place is located about 105 kms from Reckong Peo pearched on small rocky eminence, on the right bank of Spiti river. There is an insulated rock at the east of the place once surmounted by a fort, which is now in ruins.

    Lippa: The place is situated near the left bank of Taiti stream. There are three Buddhist temples here dedicated to Galdang Chhoikar, Dunguir and Kangyur. There is also another old sanctuary dedicated to Tangtashu, a local deity.

    Moorang: The place is located about 39 kms away from the Kalpa. There is an old fort here believed to be built by Pandavas. The local deity here is Urming. There are three structures dedicated to the deity each existing in Thwaring, Garmang and Shilling.

    Pooh: This place is located 71 kms from Reckong Peo. The place houses green fields, vineyards, and also beautiful apricots, almond and grape orchards.

    Rakchham: Rakchham is situated on the right bank of the river Baspa. It is said that in the earlier time there was a natural stone bridge over the Baspa river hence the name of the village.

    Ribba: The place is also known as Rirang and is located at a distance of 14 kms from Moorang. The village is known for grapes orchards and also the alcohol famous grape distilled from the vineyards here.

    The best time to visit Kinnaur is from April to October. The nearest narrow gauge railway station to Kinnaur is at Shimla and the nearest airport is Shimla airport.
