Dharamsala is a city of Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. The place is popularly known as the home of the Dalai Lama. It is the centre of the Tibetan exile world in India. The places mostly visited by the travelers here are a museum and a busy bazaar.

The main tourist attractions here are:

1.McLeod Ganj: The place is named after Sir Donald Friell McLeod who was the Lieutenant-Governor of Punjab. It is here the residence of the 14th Dalai Lama. The place is famous for its Tibetan culture, handicrafts and temples. The highest peak of Dharmsala, Hanuman Tibba can be very well viewed from McLeod Ganj.

2.Masrur: This place is famous for its various rock-cut temples of the 8th century AD. The carvings in the temples are well detailed and also have various images of the Hindu deities like Lord Ram, Sita and Lakshamana.

3.Kangra Museum: The Museum houses various articles and artifacts that are of Tibetan Buddhists and the Kangra Valley culture. The various manuscripts, handicrafts, pottery place here are of the 5th century. There is a library also.

4.Kangra Fort: The Fort was the residence of the one of the oldest existing dynasties in the world, Katoch. The fort complex consists of several well detailed halls and watchtowers along temples that date back to the 9th century AD.

5.Dal Lake: The lake is spread over 1 sq.km and resembles the Dal lake at Kashmir. This is one of the main tourist spot in Dharmasala. There is a temple near the banks of the lake dedicated to Maa Kali.

6.Namgyal Monastery: The monastery was established by the 3rd Dalai Lama. This is a major learning and cultural centers of the Tibetans in Dharamsala. There are about 200 Tibetan monks in the monastery.

The best time to visit Dharamshala is from September to October and also from March to June. The nearest airport to Dharmasala is Gaggal and the nearest railway station is Pathankot.
