    Banaskantha is a district of Gujarat. The city got its name after the "West Banas River". This place is famous for its temples, river and cultivation of various crops. This is a modern city and is a major industrial hub in the state of Gujarat. The administrative headquarters of the district is at Palanpur. This area is also surrounded by many hills and is also in close vicinity of Aravali Mountains. It derives its name from Palansi Chauhans who inhabited the city in 14th century. The main tourist attraction of the city is Ambaji. Every year millions of devotees visit the Ambaji temple here. Balrama Temple is another famous temple in the city.

    The other main places to see in the city are a Kirti Stambh and a Rajmahal, the old palace of the Nawab, now used for govt. offices. There are also two Dargahs, one of the poet Anwar Kazi and the other of Saint Mursheed, worshipped by Muslims. An ancient stepwell `Mithi Vav' is the best-preserved architectural monument with seven galleries on the wall on either side. Famous Guajarati traditional dance, Garba, is also known to have originated from this very city.

    The best time to visit is from October to March. The nearest airport to this city is in Bhavnagar district. Banaskantha is well connected to all the major cities by rail and road transport.
