Holidays in Devprayag, a confluence of spirituality and tranquility

Devprayag is popularly known as one of the Panch Prayags, the confluence of five rivers. The city is located in Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. The place is located on the banks of the major Rivers: Alaknanda and Bhagirathi River. The city is nestled beautifully in the lap of Himalayas, is of immense spiritual significance and rich heritage. It is here, that the confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi takes place and form the holy stream, Ganga. The city has an average elevation of 830 metres. This is one of the five places where river Alaknanda forms confluence with other rivers Vishnuprayag, Karanprayag, Nandprayag, and Rudraprayag. The Dasharathachal Peak is an amazing tourist spot near to Devprayag region. A stream runs down this peak which is eye-catching view. You can also visit the nearby religious places like Danda Naggaraja which is devoted to the Lord of Snakes and Chandrabadni temple. Devprayag is divided into 3 parts ie; Bah Bazzar (Pouri Side part), Beech Bajar (laying down to the Highway No.58) and Shanti Bazar, main bus stand of Devprayag. Sangam is the place where you can clearly see the confluence of the rivers Alaknanda & Bhagirathi. But according to Hindu mythology, another river Saraswati which is also part of this confluence originating from Mana Village in Badrinath and in Devprayag, the river comes from the feet of Shri Raghunath Ji in Raghunath Temple. You can also find the footprints of Lord Rama at "Ram Kunda". Other than Sangam and Raghunath Ji Temple in Devprayag, one can visit sacred places like Mata Bhuvneshwari temple at nearby village Pundal and also Dhaneshwar Mahadev temple, Danda Naggaraja (Lord of Snakes) temple and Chandrabadni temple. This holy place is also the home of priests of Badrinath. The cuisines of the city are also rich as its heritage. The main dishes are Singori and Bal Mithai. The place can be visited anytime throughout the year. The nearest railway station to the city is situated in Rishikesh at a distance of 72kms and the nearest airport is at Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun. The place is located on national highway number 58 and buses and taxies are accessible from major towns. There are not many holiday accommodation options available at Devprayag, however all the available holiday homes provide modern facilities and are neat and clean with excellent service.
