Best Hill Stations in Nagaland

Nagaland is a mountaineous state in the North East of India. The State is perfect representation of the rich culture and tradition of the Naga Tribes. Kohima:

Kohima is the hilly capital of the State. This is a beautiful hill station located at an elevation of 1,444 m above sea level. It is here where you can see Naga tribes in large numbers. The entire town of Kohima is centred on the mountains. This is also the land of the brave and daring Angami Naga tribe.

Another place to visit is Kohima Zoo inhabiting all species of animals that exist in hilly areas. Catholic Church at the hill point of Aradhurah Hill is also an important place of visit. This is the tallest church of Kohima. The hill top offers spellbind views of the surroundings. Bara Basti is a small village in Kohima. The word ‘Bara Basti’ literally means the ‘big village’. This is believed to be the second largest village in Asia. It is located on a high hill, facing the Kohima town. Adventure enthusiasts can go for trekking. Trekking to Dzukuo Valley and Japfu peak are the two important trails in Kohima. This is a best place for mountain climbing.

Pfutsero:

Pfutsero is the highest and coldest town in the state. The hill station is known for its spine-chilling climate. The place is located at a distance of 70km from Kohima and is at a height of 2133 m above sea level. During winters the temperature drops to well below zero degrees Celsius. The place is known for apple farms.

The main tourist attractions nearby are Zunheboto, a small hill station, Saramati Mountain, the bird sanctuary at Ghosu and the hill ranges of Satoi. The best time to visit is from October to April which is a festival time here. Every year, the harvest festival of Tsukhenye is celebrated with huge passion from 24th to 27th April. Trekking, bird-watching, nature walks and shopping are the main things to do here.

The nearest airport is Dimapur and the nearest railway station is Rangapaphar at about 70 kms.
