2. Trek to Aruvikkuzhi and Sail to the Nearby Island

The second most popular activity here is to trek until the Aruvikkuzhi waterfall via a muddy path. This scenic picnic spot is flanked by sedimentary rock ridges and rubber plantations. The streams jingle through the landscape and their waterrumbles while cascading down the hills. 

From here, take a boat to an enthralling island on the lake, Pathiramanal, also known as the sands of midnight. Situated on the backwaters, it is the abode of several rare assortments of migratory birds coming from different regions of the world.

3. Spot the Diverse Birds

Do visit the birds at the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary on the banks of the lake. This is the hub of endangered and common species of migratory and native birds such as Siberian Cranes, Egrets, Herons, Parrots, and Waterfowls. A cruise along the lake is an ideal way to discover the area.

4. Enjoy the Authentic Cuisine

For the foodies, tasting the authentic cuisine is one of the most interesting things to do in Kumarakom. Kumarakom is traditionally famous for its dish called sadhyas, a vegetarian recipe on a banana leaf. It comprises of boiled rice and many side dishes such as vegetable stews and pancakes.
