Uttarkashi is a district of Uttarakhand. The place is located at an elevation of 1158 meters. The place has the origin of two holiest rivers of India, Ganga and Yamuna. The main places to visit in Uttarkashi include:

  1. Gangotri: A main holy place to visit in Uttarakhand. It is situated at a height of 3048 meters. This is the source of the holy river, Ganga.
  2. Yamunotri: Yamunotri is located about 3235 meters above sea level. It is the source of river Yamuna.
  3. Vishwanath Temple: It is believed that the temple was first built by Parasuram. The temple is dedicated to God Shiva.
  4. Shakti Temple: The temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga. There is a big Trishul in the temple believed to have been thrown by goddess Durga at devils.
  5. Govind National Park: The Park is spread over an area of 953 sq. kms. The snow capped peaks and glaciers here are really eye-catching sights. The Park mainly consists of wildlife of Himalayan origin as well as rare birds.
  6. Gangnani: The quite environment here is ideal for meditation.  The place is famous for its thermal springs and the views of Himalayas it offers. The spring is called Rishikund. There is a temple dedicated to sage Parasara, father of Veda Vyas.
  7. Maneri: There is a dam here built on Bhagirathi River. The water from here is fed through 8 km long tunnel to turbines at Uttarkashi. There is a beautiful lake here at Maneri formed because of the dam.
  8. Har Ki Dun: This is a famous trekking destination in Uttarkashi located at an altitude of 3506 metres.
