Almora

Almora is a district of Uttarakhand. This is the cultural heart of the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. The main tourist attractions here are:

Bright End Corner: The beautiful view of sunset and sunrise through the Himalayan peaks from here is very famous. The place is situated at about 2 kms from Almora. You can visit Vivekananda Memorial here, where Swami Vivekananda had stopped for a while on his journey to the Himalayas. There is a library also which was named after Vivekananda.

Martola: This is an ideal picnic spot located at a distance of 10kms from Almora. Transportation is available only upto Panuwanaula and after that one has to go on foot. The place is mostly populated by foreigners.

Kalimut: The place is about 5kms from Almora. There is a temple dedicated to Goddess Kali here. From this scenic tourist spot the beautiful Himalayas can be viewed.

Deer Park: About 3kms from Almora is the Deer Park. In this park, you can see different types of Himalayan animals.

Simtola: This picnic spot is situated 3 kms from Almora. This is a perfect spot for camping and picnicking.

Katarmal Sun Temple: This temple is dedicated to Sun God and is the second most important temple to Sun God in India. This is a more than 800 years old temple. The temple is located about 7kms from Almora. There are a number of beautiful sculptures in the temple.

Chitai Temple or Gollu Devta: The temple is dedicated to Gollu Devta, an incarnation of Gaur Bhairav. Chitai Temple is situated about 8kms from Almora. This is a famous temple of Almora. It is believed that  every wish of the devotees of this temple will come true.

Kasar Devi Temple: The temple is situated at about 7kms from Almora. It is said that Swami Vivekananda meditated here in 1920. From here you can very well enjoy the beauty of splendid Himalayas.

The main markets of Almora are Lala Bazaar, Malli Bazaar, Karkhana Bazaar and Thana Bazaar. You can buy local utensils, clothes, etc at reasonable prize from these bazaars.

The nearest railway station is Kathgodam about 85 Kms from the city and the nearest airport is Pantnagar about 91 kms from the city.
