Gokarna is a small pilgrimage town in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. The word meaning of Gokarna is Cow's Ear. It is said that it is here Lord Shiva emerged from the ear of a cow (Prithvi, the Mother Earth). The place is also located at the ear-shaped confluence of two rivers Gangavali and Aghanashini.
