Mountain Cycling Adventure Tourism Kerala

The third season of MTB Kerala 2015, an international biking initiative of Kerala Tourism will commence on 18^th of April 2015. Kerala known for its beautiful green forests, charming backwaters and scenic beaches is preparing to show the world its other side of adventure. This will be hosted by Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society (KATPS). The event has been organized by Cycling Federation of India, Union Cycliste Internationale and DTPC Wayanad.

MTB Kerala race will be held in two categories ie; International Cross-Country Competition XCO (Elite Men) and National Cross-Country competition XCO (Elite Men)

The track is of 5 kms which goes through the high hills of Pancharakolly with the beautiful river Kabani flowing nearby. This is situated at an altitude of about 3000 feet. The track covers the Perungoda hill slopes in Pozhuthana Panchayat in Wayanad. The event is expecting a participation of around 30 to 180 participants from the country. The cool climate of Wayanad and a ride through the tea plantations will surely offer a great experience for the riders.

Bikers from more than 15 countries are expecting to take part in this season. Cyclists from Cycling Federation of Singapore, Thailand, Nepal, Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, Iran, Sri Lanka, Auckland, France, and Armenia have already registered for the event. Two top cyclists each from these countries are being flown in by the Kerala Tourism with the aim of promoting adventure tourism in the State. Winners will receive a cash prize close to Rs 1 million.

The main aim of conducting this event is to enhance the potential of adventure tourism spots in the state and also to highlight Kerala as the future hub for International Mountain Cycling Event. This will also give a boost to the adventure tourism spots in Wayanad that has already emerged as a major tourist destination.
